Friendly football match PDF Печать E-mail

On June, 1, seminary students and secondary school boys from the football team “Seraphim”, representing “Orthodox-oriented secondary school in the name of the Saint Seraphim Sarovsky” in Moscow, had an unofficial football match.

The unofficial, friendly match was held on the day of the St. Prince Dmitry Donskoy. First thing in the morning, the guest footballers prayed at the Divine Liturgy in the church of the Saint Dmitry in the town of Dzerzhinsky. The service was headed by the Father Superior Hegumen Varfolomey. After the service the guest players met with the team of Nikolo-Ugreshskaya Seminary at the town’s stadium “Orbita”. The rector of the seminary Hegumen Ioann and the confessor of the Orthodox-oriented secondary school archpriest Konstantin Sopelnikov offered a thanksgiving prayer in front of the Icon of Theotokos of Tikhvin.

After the prayer service, the match kicked off. The first half passed in equal struggle on the field, although finished 2:1 in the seminary’s favour. Second half of the match proved more spectacular; penalty kicks to the Ugresha’s goal, attempted scoring shots, shaves on posts and crossbars. Final whistle set the score at 7:5 in favour of seminarians. Such showy outcome of the match kept team supporters excited but upset the goal-keepers.

Guest team’s supporters are worthy of mention for their arsenal of cheerful football chants. After the game the players and supporters sat at the table for a joint meal in the church of St. Dmitry Donskoy. We owe our guests big time for such a full-of-joy communication and looking forward to further contacts.
